I have been thinking about doing a juicing cleanse for a long time. Not only would it be a way for me to take off some extra pounds (I have plenty) but I think it would be good for my health. I have always been healthy and to date have no health problems; I want to keep it that way.
For many months I have been reading about doing a green juicing cleanse and balancing the PH levels in the body. This type of cleanse is a “jump start” to get to this balance. I know people who have followed this website for several years and recommended it to me phmiracleliving.com so I took a look at it. I started reading it also and found it very interesting, with much of the information which I already had plus more.
Know that I am NOT A HEALTH PROFESSIONAL and this information is my opinion from what I have gathered together. To balance the body, you need to buy PH strips and test the acid/ alkaline on a regular basis. By following a high alkaline food list and acidic food list, you can do this balancing through your diet.
The juicing cleanse to jump start this balancing is made by juicing greens which are low in acid. I have found most people are high in acid due to their diets of starches, sugars and lots of meat and other proteins. This high acid level in the body is believed by many professionals to cause diseases of the heart, cancers and all parts of the body. I highly recommend the reading of the above mentioned website and all other information on this subject and decide for yourself. I believe this balancing will give you a much healthier life.
This website increased my desire to do the juicing cleanse as soon as I could. As much as I love cooking and EATING I knew it would take all of my concentration to accomplish it. I began by ordering a good juicer; one powerful enough to extract all the juice and leave very little dry pulp. Also important is to drink lots of pure PH balanced filtered water. I ordered a good water filter and glass storage containers.
The above website recommends the juicing cleanse to be done for 7 to
21 days. I knew I could only spare 7 days and would be lucky if I could
stick with it that long on my first try. When I knew I could set aside
seven days for the juicing when I could stay in one place without
interruption, I purchased all my vegetables. This included a wide
variety of organic green vegetables which are high alkaline foods. I
also purchased organic lemons to squeeze for my water and to use
This is a partial list of the different foods; search the above mentioned website for more. I have seen a discrepancy from different sources for a few foods but I believe this website to be reliable.
ALKALINE FOOD LIST includes most green vegetables like kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cucumbers, celery, lettuce, mustard and other foods like beets, new potatoes, onion, garlic, lemon, lime, grapefruit and others. Quinoa is about the only grain I found to be listed as an alkaline food.
ACID FOODS include meats and seafood, dairy products, white flour products like bread, pastas, biscuits, all sugar products, most grains, coffee, tea and almost all drinks and much more.
I managed to get through this juicing cleanse only two full days. When I woke up on the third day, I felt very weak. Considering that I had a lot of work to do, I needed to feel better. I have been on a lot of diets but I consider this to be a healthy lifestyle change. I think this low alkaline diet is the way to go and the juicing is a great way to detoxify the body.
I plan to stay as close to this balanced diet as possible and then try the juice cleanse again in the near future. Even the two days made me feel better and gave me more energy so I can imagine what 7 to 21 days would do. I drank lots of lemon water all day. Below is a schedule of my two day juicing cleanse:
4:00 AM Tested PH Mine was low at on 4 (if below 7.2 it is recommended to take PH salts)
4:15 took 2 teaspoons PH salts in 5 ounces alkaline water
4:30 Took colloidal supplements
5:00 Drank green juice then took vitamin supplements (Juice made with 1 stalk celery, 1 cucumber, 1/3 bunch parsley and spinach leaves- saved pulp and used in soup)
7:20 Drank mixture of green powder in filtered water.
8:30 Tested PH again by saliva and urine (Was 7.2 thankfully didn’t have to drink PH salts)
8:40 Sprayed mouth with colloidal spray
9:49 (Our lunch) made” raw soup”- I was so cold I heated to a boil but did not cook it. I made it with the pulp left from juice, fine chopped cabbage, chopped kale, fresh garlic, chopped celery, fresh basil, salt and pepper.
10:00 Drank green powder mixed in filtered water
1:00 PM Tested PH by urine (All was fine) Sprayed mouth with colloidal spray.
4:00 our dinner time; more cabbage soup
TIP: Mix strong fresh lemon juice in fresh water and have it ready to drink. After drinking the juice and green powder, this lemon water tastes so good!
TIP: To me, the hot soup tasted so good after drinking all the other stuff through the day.
To remain on an alkaline diet after the juicing cleanse, I need to come up with some foods which will be healthy but filling. Grain is filling but the only one I could find on the alkaline list is quinoa. I decided to make tortilla recipe which I have given you below. As I suspected because quinoa is gluten free, they do not roll well. They are still very tasty so I can use them in other ways. Instead of a “roll”, they were fine to simply “fold” over.
Combine flour with salt; cut in shortening.
Add warm water and blend together in a dough.
Divide into 8 or ten equal balls (These cannot be rolled as thinly as the regular tortillas as they fall apart)
Roll into circles; place on sprayed griddle or in skillet and cook a couple minutes on each side.
Place between pieces of foil until ready to use.
Stir fry in tablespoon sesame oil steamed French green beans, 2 ounces cooked chicken chunks, chopped fresh basil, sliced fresh garlic, salt and pepper. Place mixture on tortilla and top with a few spinach leaves. Fold tortilla over and enjoy.
Layer a quinoa tortilla in oiled casserole dish.
Layer spinach; layer a small sliced zucchini.
Top with chopped fresh basil and sliced fresh garlic.
Sprinkle with 2 ounces crumbled feta cheese.
Place another quinoa tortilla over top; layer more fresh spinach.
Place layer of sliced yellow squash on top; sprinkle chopped basil, sliced garlic salt and pepper over top.
Add about 2 ounces of feta cheese on top; bake at 350F degrees for 40 minutes.
